Sing Noel! with Gloriae Dei Cantores
“An outstanding. . . moving release of intensely lovely seasonal music.” -Christmasreviews.com

“I adore well-executed choral music for the holidays, and the Gloriæ Dei Cantores certainly fills the bill. Sing Noel is an outstanding, no-nonsense, moving release of intensely lovely seasonal music. Every cut works here. I especially enjoyed the crisp a cappella treatment of Caroling, Caroling (perhaps the best version I have ever heard), the brassy exuberance of Ding Dong! Merrily on High, and the commanding, nuanced delivery of Masters in This Hall. Fans of choral music will thrill to the classic sounds of the Gloriæ Dei Cantores on Sing Noel. The Chants of Christmas
“A mystical aura that envelops the listener, a mesmerizing impact…Downright divine!” -ChristmasReviews.com

“This is what I would call a glorious retreat ... it is certainly worth it. We are given Gregorian chants corresponding to the Propers of the four masses that comprise the Nativity celebration: roughly, the Vigil Mass (evening before anticipatory in nature), Night Mass (done after the Night Office, reflective), early morning mass (at dawn, probably the most joyous of the four) and the Mass during the day (the most profoundly theological in meaning in terms of the Christmas proclamation)...Readers familiar with my reviews of this ensemble know that I am a big fan, and I find the comprehensive approach, thoughtful dynamic shadings, and generally robust and fully piety-riven performances to be models of their kind. The Schola has done a number of chant recordings, all worth seeking out, and their approach to this music is anything but doctrinaire or dogmatic, ever seeking to breathe new life and a modern freshness into this ancient music that refuses to not speak to contemporary audiences. The pared-down Gregorian melodies are just the thing to allow one to reflect on the original Christmas meaning sans ornaments, decorations, and candy canes, and you might find that this release inspires you to captures anew the spiritual and cultural essence of the season. ... the sound is terrific.”  --Audiophile Audition

The Bells of Christmas
“These virtuosi of metal and mallet positively palpitate with imagination and glittering sonorities." - MusicWeb International

“These virtuosi of metal and mallet positively palpitate with imagination and their arrangements are the ne plus ultra of shimmering, quivering pulsating pulchritude. the arrangement by Frances Legge Callahan summoning up twangy sonorities and pedal notes, a delicious range of colors including plucking and martellato effects. There are eleven players in this plucky Massachusetts group directed by Richard K. Pugsley... they use 79 Malmark handbells (of 6 1/2 octaves). 'Twas Christmas Eve receives a rather suggestive reading that ends in Renaissance dignity whilst the witty coloration of The Twelve Days of Christmas is full of pitch extremes and glittering sonorities, like stars exploding. Away in a Manger is saturated in impressionistic ostinato; if you think handbells are inflexible creatures listen to the dynamic variance cultivated by these patrician East Coast ringers. They wouldn't rouse a butterfly's eyelids with the spectral quiescence of their Malmarks. A Flight of Angels is rhythmically novel; the sound of mallet on bell is distinctive as elsewhere the piping of shepherds in Shepherds, Watching is conveyed trough simplicity and delicacy. Altogether their ensemble is metaltight, the sonorities they conjure full of lithe and pleasurable novelty.”

Palestrina
“A magnificent, essential release...If we have ever had a finer Palestrina recording available, I've not heard it.”- In Tune Magazine

Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, hailed through the centuries as “Prince and Father of Music,” composed sacred works of unsurpassed grace and beauty.  The Missa “Descendit Angelus Domini” was recorded from a new transcription made from the partbooks in the Vatican Library. The motets were selected for their exquisite expression of the texts. This is a worthy celebration of the man who represents the highest ideals of the Renaissance.   “They [Gloriæ Dei Cantores]have demonstrated a polished musicality, combined with a versatile command of a wide-ranging repertoire of literature and styles ... the richness and sonority is almost hypnotically beautiful. Palestrina was, after all, one of the great composers of music for grouped human voices, and there is no reason why we should not enjoy such luscious, expansive (yet stylistically sensitive) realizations of his music...Alike to the Palestrina collector or the lover of wonderful choral sound, this release is warmly recommended.” --American Record Guide.

10.Masters

Masters of the Renaissance
“Early Baroque Flemish, Italian, German, and French antico polyphony in an artistic, historically informed manner… perfectly executed.” -The American Organist

This release from Gloriæ Dei Cantores features sacred music from one of the most inspired periods in the arts: the Renaissance. Each of the European schools of composition (Italian, Flemish, German, Spanish, and English) is represented by a total of twenty composers, offering a fascinating cross-section of styles and influences. Great masters such as Lassus, Byrd, and Victoria are featured, as well as lesser-known composers such as Hassler, de Wert, and Nanino. The central work of this recording is the Missa super Bella Amfitrit' altera by Lassus, generally considered one of his finest works. Other selections include Anerio's tender and stirring Requiem aeternum and William Byrd's Terra tremuit, which has been described as "one of the most dramatic texts in the whole of music."   “Here ... is a generous survey of luscious Renaissance choral music ... I've lost count of the albums I've covered from this group -- what can I say about them without sounding like a broken record? ... Ms. Patterson is a true choral alchemist, and never fails to draw truly golden sound and beautifully nuanced singing from her hard-working musicians. Sacred illumination is their mission, and they achieve it with spiritual sincerity and power ... Recorded sound is especially ravishing.” --American Record Guide

Mozart: Rare Choral Works
“I can boil this entire review down to three little words for you. BUY THIS SET!! Under-recorded works in excellent interpretations.” -MozartForum.com

A double CD of rarely recorded masterpieces!
The world has enjoyed the genius of Mozart through his symphonies, operas, chamber and piano music. In addition, his Requiem, left incomplete at his death, remains one of the most beloved of sacred choral works.

Mozart: Rare Choral Works offers a profound experience for the classical music lover and for those who are interested in the sacred side of one of the best-loved composers of all time.
“I cannot think of a greater, more inspiring, and exciting contribution to this 250th anniversary year of Mozart's birth that these two CD's.  The performances by the chorus Gloriæ Dei Cantores and the instrumental ensemble Vox Caeli Sinfonia are uniformly excellent. The interpretation of these magnificent works is the first rate and accompanying booklet full of invaluable information about the works presented. This is a birthday present Mozart would have loved as well as everyone fortunate enough to own this wonderful set of CDs.” --Samuel Adler, Professor Emeritus, The Juilliard School
